This work is inspired by the Minoan civilisation, which developed principally on the island of Crete during the Aegean Bronze Age (between 3,000 and 1,200 BCE). This society, perhaps the most advanced of its time, practised cults to female deities, and the most celebrated sculpture attributed to them, the Snake Goddess, inspires this work, with references to their most emblematic crop and Minoan symbol of female empowerment: saffron.
